ORTIGIAOrtigia is a small Italian soap company, founded in 2006 inspired by the aesthetics, colours and scents of Italys most historic and tropical region Sicilia.
Ortigia makes soaps, scents, creams, candles and lotions from natural vegetable ingredients using perfumes from plants and minerals found in Sicilia.
The perfumes: Ambra Nera, Lime di Sicilia - Sicilian Lime, Melograno - Pomegranate, Lavanda - Lavender, Fico dIndia - a cactus - Mandorla - Almond and Geranium are all to be found growing in the Mediterranean climate. Made from olive oil, almond oil, palm oil, castor oil, lanolin and vegetable glycerine, with no Parabens or additives.
Ortigia uses traditional products with modern ethics and integrity. All the Ortigia range is made by small family companies who pride themselves on the quality of their products. Both the scents and products are formulated by Ortigia. The packaging, designed by Sue Townsend, is highly decorative and draws on exotic Sicilian images and colours. The soap boxes are hand made with silver foil and embossed lettering. The square candle jars and glass bottles are die stamped with images of leopards and palm trees.
